The market for pharmaceutical sales jobs is certainly a large one, but no less important is that of medical sales jobs, differing slightly in that the product in question here is equipment, as opposed to drugs.  Medical sales companies offer all kinds of medical equipment, from the very basic things such as sutures and wound dressing’s right through to advanced medical equipment such as MRI scanners and surgical equipment.  One particular advance in the past decade has been the advent of advanced prosthetic limbs.  One such advancement has been in the news recently with the Genium, and artificial lower leg, made by Otto Bock Healthcare of Germany.  Matthew Newbury became the first Briton to be fitted with the prosthesis; a prosthetic limb so advanced it has sensors that can automatically adjust its rigidity at the knee so as to make walking much easier and less tiresome.

The 30 year old Newbury lost his left leg fifteen years previously in a car accident, and has had a series of prosthetic limbs, but none as advanced as the one he now has.  The limb has ten settings, including ones for cycling, golf, and even skiing.  The advancements have the potential to allow amputees to enjoy things they otherwise would never be able to, and though the cost is large, for what is on offer it can hardly be called prohibitive.  Such advancements demonstrate the importance of developments across the medical world, as we also see growth in pharma sales jobs as more advanced drug treatments become available.  Such improvements include revolutionary new gene therapy treatments for cancer patients, as well as the future potential for patients to have their own skin used to treat the growth of cancerous tumours.  A bionic leg as advanced as Matthew Newbury’s is certainly striking, but the developments all across the medical world continue to astound.
