If you are planning on working abroad and English is not your first language, you might need to show your English test results, when applying for your Visa. There are different kinds of English tests, and they’ve all got their own advantages, however, most English tests involve writing, speaking, listening and reading skills. If you have to take an English test and are in need of some valuable tips in how you can successfully pass for your English test, please have a look at the following tips provided.
Writing:
Before you can write proper English it is important that you first expand your vocabulary. It is also useful to write up little stories at first and have someone who speaks the English language, check it for spelling mistakes. Reading a lot of English also helps, as you will start to recognise more and more words. The writing test takes about 40 minutes.
Speaking:
Speaking is perhaps one of the most important sections of the English test. If you cannot speak the English language, you most likely will find it difficult to do your day to day activities in your work environment. If you want to practise your English speaking skills, then it is ideal if you put yourself find a situation whereby you are forced to speak English (by going to an English speaking country for holiday, without a translator!). If you are not able to due to a lack of resources, then expose yourself to the English language. Talk to people who speak English and start conversations. It does not matter if it takes a bit longer to think about certain phrases or words. The English speaking test takes about 15 minutes and you will be expected to answer a random set of questions by the examiner.
Listening:
If you live in a country where the films and shows on your television are synchronised in your own language then buy English speaking films or watch shows online as you should listen to the English language for at least two hours a day. It is also useful to include English subtitles at first, as this will make it a bit easier to follow. The listening test requires you to concentrate for a good 40 minutes, so make sure you are well rested prior to taking the test.
Reading:
If you have poor writing, speaking and listening skills, you reading will be very difficult. Reading again requires you to concentrate for a long time and it is advised to read it slowly instead of rushing through it. You are allowed to bring a dictionary but don’t use this all the time as it will cut off valuable time. The reading test involved reading stories about random topics, whereby you will need to answer multiple choice questions at the end of each story.
I hope these tips have been valuable and good luck with practising your English!
